Call Our Office if You Have a Dental Emergency

EmergencyIf you have a sudden dental emergency, we can assist you and provide immediate relief. As an emergency dentist in Reading, we see all types of patients needing emergency care. It is a common misconception that only people who do not visit the dentist regularly, end up with an emergency. While it is true that ongoing dental care will reduce the likelihood of you needing emergency care, that's all it can do.

There is no way to anticipate certain life events like a ball hitting your mouth or getting into a car wreck. It is these events that prompt even those in excellent oral health, to require our services. Since the majority of dentists only keep business hours, it is important to know who you can call if something happens to your teeth outside of business hours.

Dental Emergencies

Toothache

If you experience sudden discomfort due to a toothache, give us a call regardless of what day or what time. If we do not answer, we will return your call as quickly as possible. It is important to see a dentist instead of heading to the emergency room, because ER doctors are not trained in how to solve dental emergencies. While they do an excellent job of caring for your body, dentistry is a specialty and an entirely different medical degree. So much so, that most emergency rooms will refer you to a dentist right away.

Children’s Dental Emergencies

You may be surprised to know how many children end up with a dental emergency. As an emergency dentist, we see patients of all ages that need to have their teeth fixed due to either damage or infection. Considering that you only have one permanent set of teeth, this is incredibly high and can set those children up for further dental problems in the future. In our emergency dentist office, we recommend taking steps to decrease your child's risk of having a dental emergency, to begin with.

Dental Emergencies from Sports

Adults also suffer dental emergencies and the most common reason, according to the Academy of Dentistry, is playing sports. Being an athlete has long since been admired but professional athletes tend to take better care of their body and find ways to protect themselves. Everyone else tends to wear less protective gear, including not wearing a mouth guard. Since playing sports can lead to tooth injuries in both adults and children, we recommend taking the time to either buy a mouth guard or buy a customized one. This way, your teeth can stay safe and avoid injury.

Another way to prevent a dental emergency is to make sure that your teeth are both strong and healthy, to begin with. Having your teeth cleaned twice a year can help, as can brushing with fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride serves to remineralize and strengthen the teeth. As teeth become stronger, they are less likely to have sudden tooth decay or become cracked or chipped. While we are happy to treat you as an emergency dentist, we would prefer to treat you now and help to prevent you from experiencing discomfort down the road.
